Our 20th anniversary!

Our Annual Concert in March at the Old Mill Hall in Grove was special as it marked the start of our 20th anniversary year.  For the first time, we did not invite any guests to share the stage with us and celebrated the occasion with a ‘Just Us’ theme, performiing pieces chosen by ourselves from our 20-year repertoire.  The concert was again well supported by our faithful followers and I think all attending would probably agree that the performance of ‘Kalinka’ was a surprisingly unique experience.

In May the Choir and supporters travelled north to partake in a concert with Hartlepool Male Voice Choir. As always when you’re enjoying yourself, thanks to the interesting maritime attractions and the warm hosptality of our concert hosts, the time passed too quickly.  We shall all look forward to meeting up again in the not too distant future.  Why Hartlepool?  It could have something to do with 2nd tenor Norman, husband of our MD, originating from those parts!

In September we performed at St John’s Church, Fernham Village, near Faringdon.  We first performed there in January 2007, to help fund church repairs and improvements. In September 2009 we sang again for the same cause but, as the repair work was at its height, the church was unuseable for concerts and the venue was at the nearby village of Coleshill. (See ‘News Items, 2009’ and the ‘duck experience!’) So it was especially pleasing to be asked back again this year, to present a concert at the Church with all its refurbishments completed.  We were very impressed by the improvements to the building and the enthusiasm and gratitude of the villagers for our small part in the process was heartening to us all and much appreciated.
